[TA] posterior layer of thoracolumbar fascia: the outermost of three layers of fascia covering the deep muscles in the lumbosacral region; it is attached to the spines of the lumbar and sacral vertebrae and to the supraspinous ligaments, gives origin to transversus abdominis, and helps to enclose erector spinae. Called also l. superficialis fasciae thoracolumbalis [TA alternative].
