iodotyrosine deiodinase

iodotyrosine deiodinase
io·do·ty·ro·sine de·io·din·ase (i″o-do-tiґro-sēn de-iґo-dĭ-nās) an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of iodine from monoiodotyrosine and diiodotyrosine. The reaction is a step in the conservation of iodine by the thyroid. Congenital deficiency of the enzyme results in severe loss of iodine, resulting in hypothyroidism and goiter. Called also iodotyrosine dehalogenase.
