thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins
- thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins
- (TSI) circulating IgG antibodies with the ability to mimic thyrotropin by binding to receptors for it on thyroid cells and activating adenylate cyclase, thus causing an increase in the level of the intracellular second messenger cyclic AMP, which results in the release of thyroid hormones; thought to be responsible for most cases of Graves disease. Called also human thyroid adenylate cyclase stimulators (HTACS). Formerly called long-acting thyroid stimulator.
