cholestatic hepatitis
1. a rare form of viral hepatitis in which there is cholestasis with obstructive jaundice, pruritus, dark urine, light-colored feces, and elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase and conjugated bilirubin; the course is prolonged compared to that of other forms of hepatitis. Called also cholangitic h. and cholangiolitic h. 2. hepatic inflammation and cholestasis resulting from reaction to drugs; numerous ones have been implicated. It often resembles primary biliary cirrhosis, with the difference that it eventually resolves.
