[Japanese moyamoya foggy or smoky, from the angiographic appearance] cerebral ischemia due to occlusion of large arteries at the circle of Willis, with secondary proliferation of an abnormal network of vessels at the base of the brain, causing progressive neurologic disability; hemorrhage may occur from the abnormal vessels.
