dimethylglycine dehydrogenase
- dimethylglycine dehydrogenase
- di·meth·yl·gly·cine de·hy·dro·gen·ase (di-meth″əl-gliґsēn de-hiґdro-jən-ās) [EC 1.5.99.2] a mitochondrial flavoprotein enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of N,N-dimethylglycine to sarcosine in the metabolism of choline. It requires a folate cofactor and transfers electrons from its flavin moiety to electron transfer flavoprotein. The reaction occurs in the mitochondrial inner membrane in the liver and kidney.
