disaccharidase deficiency
- disaccharidase deficiency
- less than normal activity of disaccharidases of the intestinal mucosa. It usually denotes a generalized deficiency of all such enzymes secondary to a disorder of the small intestine, which clinically may be manifest only as a deficiency of lactase activity; sometimes the term is used to denote deficiency of a single enzyme or enzyme complex, such as lactase, sucrase-isomaltase complex, or α,α-trehalase. See also individual enzyme deficiencies and see disaccharide intolerance, under intolerance.
