apical complex

apical complex
an ultrastructural complex of apical organelles characteristic of certain protozoa (apicocomplexan protozoa) during some stage of their development, generally consisting of one or more polar ring(s), a conoid, micronemes, rhoptries, and subpellicular microtubules. It seems to function as a means of attachment to and penetration of host cells.
