oxyphilic cells 1. acidophilic cells found, along with the more numerous chief cells, in the parathyroid glands; they increase in number with age, have small dark nuclei and abundant finely granular cytoplasm, and are larger and have many more mitochondria than the chief cells. 2. any of various pathological acidophilic cells found in the thyroid gland. 3.
