acu·point (akґu-point) any of the specific sites for needle insertion in acupuncture; stimulation of acupoints also forms the basis of other therapies, including acupressure and moxibustion. There are 361 basic, named acupoints along the 12 principal and two of the collateral meridians, and a large number of other points derived from clinical experience; most acupoints are areas of high electrical conductance on the body surface. Called also acupuncture point.
