triple marker test

triple marker test
a blood test used in the prenatal diagnosis of Down's syndrome, which can be performed at about the 16th week of pregnancy. Levels of alpha-fetoprotein (afp), unconjugated oestriol (uE3), and human chorionic gonadotrophin in the serum are computed with maternal age to determine the statistical likelihood of the fetus being affected. If the risk is high, the diagnosis can be confirmed by chromosome analysis.
