transmyocardial revascularization
- transmyocardial revascularization
a form of laser surgery that is being evaluated in the treatment of coronary artery disease. At
diastole, a laser positioned over the left ventricle fires beams that create minute channels, about 1 mm in diameter, through the thickness of the ventricle. When the ventricle contracts, oxygenated blood is forced into the channels and supplies the damaged muscle;
the blood clots at the surface of the heart, thus preventing leakage.
