somatoform disorders

somatoform disorders
a group of disorders in which there is a history of repeated physical complaints with no physical basis. They include somatization disorder and hypochondriasis (see hypochondria). Also included (in DSM-IV but not in ICD-10) is conversion disorder.

[DSM-IV] mental disorders characterized by symptoms suggesting a general medical condition but neither fully explained by a general medical condition, the direct effects of a psychoactive substance, or another mental disorder nor under voluntary control; this category includes body dysmorphic disorder, conversion disorder, hypochondriasis, pain disorder, somatization disorder, and undifferentiated somatoform disorder.
