proton-pump inhibitor
a drug that reduces gastric acid secretion by blocking the proton pump within the oxyntic cells. Proton-pump inhibitors include lansoprazole, omeprazole, and pantoprazole; they are used for treating gastric and duodenal ulcers, reflux oesophagitis, and the hypersecretion caused by gastrinoma.
