nasopharyngeal leishmaniasis chronic, progressive metastatic spread of lesions of the variety of New World cutaneous leishmaniasis that is caused by Leishmania braziliensis from the skin to the nasal, pharyngeal, and buccal mucosa months to years after appearance of the initial cutaneous lesion, which has usually healed. There may be mutilating destruction of the nasal septum, palate, lips, pharynx, and larynx. Called also espundia.
