particles occurring in the nucleus and cytoplasm of cells usually as a result of virus infection. Their presence can sometimes be used to diagnose such an infection.

round, oval, or irregular-shaped bodies occurring in the cytoplasm and nuclei of cells of the body, such as those seen in disease caused by viral infections (e.g., rabies and herpes). Called also elementary b's and intranuclear inclusions.
