hyperosmolar non-ketotic diabetic coma
a coma induced by very poorly controlled diabetes mellitus in which the blood-sugar levels have become markedly high with severe dehydration but no excessive ketone production or acidosis. It is most common in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and has a mortality of around 30%.
