cri-du-chat syndrome
a congenital condition of severe mental retardation associated with an abnormal facial appearance, spasticity, and a characteristic catlike cry in infancy. It results from a chromosomal abnormality in which there is a loss (deletion) of part of the short arm of chromosome no. 5.
