cholinergic urticaria

cholinergic urticaria

* * *

a type of physical urticaria, usually evoked by exertion, stress, or increased environmental heat. It is thought to be a nonimmunologic hypersensitivity reaction in which acetylcholine released from parasympathetic or motor nerve terminals induces release of mediators from mast cells. On the skin there are punctate wheals surrounded by areas of erythema.
