angiogenesis inhibitor

angiogenesis inhibitor
a substance that interferes with the development of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). These substances are being investigated for use as anticancer drugs, since growing cancers have a greater need for blood supply than normal tissue and must develop new blood vessels before progressing beyond a very small size. Angiogenesis inhibitors are still at the research stage but have been found capable of eliminating various cancers in mice. Examples are endostatin and angiostatin.
