Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy
- Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy
a hereditary condition in which the endothelium of the cornea fails to function with age; small whitish deposits of hyalin are seen on the inner surface of the cornea (
cornea guttata). It results in thickening and swelling of the cornea (
bullous keratopathy) and hence reduced vision. Treatment is corneal transplantation (
see keratoplasty), which both improves vision and reduces pain.
