Wal·den·ström's macroglobulinemia 'väl-dən-.stremz-, -.strœmz- n a rare progressive syndrome associated with a high serum concentration of a monoclonal antibody of the class IgM and characterized by adenopathy, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, anemia, and lymphocytosis and plasmacytosis of the bone marrow
Wal·den·ström 'väl-dən-.strœm Jan Gosta (1906-1996)
Swedish physician. Waldenström held positions as professor of internal medicine at the University of Lund and as head of the department of medicine at the hospital in Malmö, Sweden. He was the author of numerous articles and textbook chapters on metabolism and hematology. He undertook research on diseases in which the function of red blood pigment is disturbed and on the treatment of malignant diseases of blood and bone marrow. In 1968 he published a study of monoclonal and polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia.
