von Hip·pel fȯn-'hip-əl Eugen (1867-1939)
German ophthalmologist. Von Hippel held professorships at a succession of German universities and became head of the eye clinic at Halle, Germany. In 1895 he published the original description of von Hippel-Lindau disease.
Lindau Arvid Vilhelm (1892-1958)
Swedish pathologist. Lindau published his own description of von Hippel-Lindau disease in 1926. His report of the disease is important for its histological findings.

hereditary phakomatosis characterized by hemangiomas of the retina and hemangioblastomas of the cerebellum; there may also be similar lesions of the spinal cord and cysts of the pancreas, kidneys, and other viscera. Neurologic symptoms, including seizures and mental retardation, may be present. Called also cerebroretinal or retinocerebral angiomatosis, angiophakomatosis, and Lindau or Lindau-von Hippel d.
