Ver·hoeff's stain 'vər-.hȯfs- n a stain containing hematoxylin, ferric chloride, and iodine that is used to demonstrate the presence of elastin
Verhoeff Frederick Herman (1874-1968)
American ophthalmologist. Verhoeff was an ophthalmic surgeon and pathologist at a Boston eye and ear infirmary and had a parallel career as a professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. He introduced Verhoeff's stain in 1908.
