thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura n hemolytic uremic syndrome that primarily affects adult females, is typically distinguished by only mild renal dysfunction but significant neurological deficits, and is marked by the presence of large aggregates of von Willebrand factor and a deficiency or absence of a protease that cleaves von Willebrand factor called also TTP

a form of thrombotic microangiopathy usually seen in adults, characterized by thrombocytopenia with thromboses in terminal arterioles and capillaries; other symptoms include hemolytic anemia, azotemia, fever, and bizarre neurological manifestations. Some authorities consider it identical to the hemolytic uremic syndrome. Called also microangiopathic or microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and Moschcowitz disease.
