Thei·le·ria (thi-lēr-e-ə) [Sir Arnold Theiler, Swiss microbiologist, 1867–1936] a genus of minute tick-borne protozoa (order Piroplasmida, subclass Piroplasmia) parasitic in the erythrocytes, lymphocytes, and endothelial cells of mammals; some species cause economically important diseases in cattle, sheep, and goats.
