Schizo·tryp·a·num (skiz″o-tripґə-nəm) [schizo- + Gr. trypanon borer] 1. in some systems of protozoa classification, a stercorarian subgenus of the genus Trypanosoma, including T. cruzi. 2. in some systems of classification, this is considered a genus genetically distinct from Trypanosoma, and the species causing Chagas disease is called S. cruzi.
