Rie·del's disease 'rēd-əlz- n chronic thyroiditis in which the thyroid gland becomes hard and stony and firmly attached to surrounding tissues
Riedel Bernhard Moritz Karl Ludwig (1846-1916)
German surgeon. Riedel was a professor of surgery at Jena, Germany. He performed the first surgical operation for hip luxation. He published classic descriptions of a tongue-shaped part of the liver attached to its right lobe (1888), a tumor found in chronic pancreatitis (1896), and a type of chronic inflammation of the thyroid (1896).
