phos·pho·mo·lyb·dic ac·id (fos″fo-mo-libґdik) a strong acid and oxidizing agent used as a protein precipitant and color reagent; alkaloids, xanthine, uric acid, and other substances reduce phosphomolybdic acid to molybdenum blue. It is also used in histology as a mordant.
