os·teo·lath·y·rism (os″te-o-lathґĭ-riz-əm) a skeletal disorder produced in laboratory animals by diets containing the sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) or its active principle, β-aminopropionitrile, or other aminonitriles. In rats it is characterized by hernias, dissecting aortic aneurysms, lameness of the hind legs, exostoses, and kyphoscoliosis and other skeletal deformities, apparently as the result of defective aging of collagen tissue.
