a common congenital vascular malformation involving mature capillaries, presenting as a sharply demarcated, flat, irregularly shaped patch, sometimes flesh colored and sometimes orange (salmon patch) or dark red to purple (port-wine stain); the usual location is on the face or neck. The ones closer to flesh color tend to involute during childhood, while discolored ones usually are persistent.
