Man·toux män-tü Charles (1877-1947)
French physician. Mantoux introduced his test for tuberculosis in 1908. He is also remembered for reviving the use of pneumothorax induced intentionally by artificial means for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and for advocating radiological examination of the lungs.

a type of intradermal tuberculin test; 0.1 mL of PPD containing 5 TU is administered, usually into the forearm; the size of the area of any induration on the second or third day, combined with risk factors, is used to determine whether the patient has had exposure to or infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or a related organism.
