mac·ro·nu·tri·ent (mak″ro-nooґtre-ənt) an essential nutrient required in a relatively large amount, including carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water. Minerals necessary in relatively large amounts (calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and sulfur) are sometimes included and sometimes excluded from the definition.
