Lie·ber·mann 'lē-bər-.män Carl Theodore (1842-1914)
German chemist. Liebermann is most famous for his work with fellow chemist Carl Graebe (1841-1927). Their work on artificial dyes gave considerable impetus to the development of the modern dye industry. Liebermann was the author of more than 350 scientific papers. He investigated quercetin and naphthalene compounds and prepared halogen and phenol derivatives. H. Burchard may have been one of his many student research assistants.
