Ki·ne·to·plas·ti·da (kĭ-ne″to-plasґtĭ-də) an order of flagellate protozoa of the phylum Euglenozoa; many species are free living, although most are parasites of plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates. They have one or two flagella arising from a depression in the cell body and usually contain a conspicuous kinetoplast located near the flagellar basal bodies. It includes the genus Trypanosoma that causes numerous different diseases. Called also Protomastigida and Protomonadina.
