Het·er·a·kis (het″ər-aґkis) [heter- + Gr. akis pointed object] a genus of nonpathogenic nematodes of the family Heterakidae, parasitic in the ceca of chickens, turkeys, and other birds. H. galliґnae serves as a paratenic host for Histomonas meleagridis, the etiologic agent of histomoniasis.
