Gas·ter·oph·i·lus (gas″tər-ofґĭ-ləs) [gaster + Gr. philein to love] a genus of botflies of the family Oestridae; the adults do not eat and die soon after laying their eggs on the hairs of the host. The eggs hatch into larvae that migrate through the skin and internal organs of the host.
