eucalyptus oil n any of various essential oils obtained from the leaves of various members of the genus Eucalyptus (as E. globulus) and used in pharmaceutical preparations (as antiseptics and cough drops)

a volatile oil distilled with steam from the fresh leaf of Eucalyptus globulus and other species of Eucalyptus; used as a pharmaceutical flavoring agent and as an expectorant and local antiseptic. It is also used externally for rheumatism and has a large number of uses in folk medicine. See also eucalyptol.
