bu·sul·fan (bu-sulґfan) [USP] a bifunctional cytotoxic alkylating agent, an antineoplastic agent unrelated to the nitrogen mustards; used primarily for the palliative treatment of chronic granulocytic leukemia and also for the treatment of myeloproliferative disorders including polycythemia vera and myeloid metaplasia; administered orally or intravenously. It is also used at high doses in lieu of whole body irradiation in stem cell transplantation.
