an antiviral drug that probably acts by preventing the penetration of the virus into the host cell and is used in the prevention and treatment of influenza infections. Because it increases the activity of dopamine in the brain, it is also used to treat Parkinson's disease. Common side-effects include nervousness, loss of muscular coordination, and insomnia. Trade name: Symmetrel.
