Sarcoma, synovial

Sarcoma, synovial
A soft-tissue sarcoma that usually emerges in adolescence or young adulthood. Synovial sarcomas usually arise near a joint (particularly the knee joint), and are made up of cells similar to the synovial cells that normally line a joint. Most synovial sarcomas are slow-growing, and escape notice until they cause pain. They sometimes spread to the lungs. Diagnosis is by X-ray or imaging, and can be confirmed by biopsy. Treatment is by chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery.
