Quasidiploid

Describing a cell that seems to have the usual two full sets of 23 chromosomes, but does not. Many malignant cells are quasidiploid. Also called pseudodiploid.

qua·si·dip·loid (kwah″ze-dipґloid) [quasi- + diploid] 1. having two sets of chromosomes but with an abnormal distribution. In tissue cell cultures, a chromosome of one pair may be missing and may be replaced by an extra chromosome from another pair. 2. an organism or cell that is quasidiploid.
