a drug administered intravenously by injection or infusion to prevent the toxic effect of ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide on the bladder. It binds with the toxic metabolite acrolein in the urine.

mes·na (mezґnə) a sulfhydryl compound given orally or intravenously together with a urotoxic antineoplastic agent such as ifosfamide because it inactivates some of the urotoxic metabolites and thus helps prevent hemorrhagic cystitis.
