the surgical operation of severing the duct (vas deferens) connecting the testis to the seminal vesicle and urethra. Vasectomy of both ducts causes sterility and is an increasingly popular means of birth control. Vasectomy does not affect sexual desire or potency.

va·sec·to·my (və-sekґtə-me) [vas + -ectomy] surgical removal of all or part of the ductus deferens (vas deferens), done to induce infertility or in association with prostatectomy. Called also vasoresection.
