tri·me·trex·ate (tri″mə-trekґsāt) a folic acid antagonist structurally related to methotrexate; it competitively inhibits dihydrofolate reductase. Used investigationally as an antineoplastic; also used in combination with leucovorin to treat pneumocystis pneumonia in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, administered intravenously as the glucuronate salt.
