to·lo·ni·um chlo·ride (to-loґne-əm) an antiheparin compound that has been used in the treatment of menstrual disorders, in the detection of oral and gastric carcinomas, and to stain the parathyroid glands. It is a thiazine dye chemically related to methylene blue; when used nonpharmaceutically, it is usually called toluidine blue O (q.v.).
