- The surgical division of a tendon for relief of a deformity caused by congenital or acquired shortening of a muscle, as in clubfoot or strabismus. SYN: tendotomy. SYN: tendon recession.- subcutaneous t. division of a tendon by means of a small pointed knife introduced through skin and subcutaneous tissue without an open operation.
