su·fen·ta·nil cit·rate (soo-fenґtə-nil) [USP] an opioid analgesic derived from fentanyl, used as an analgesic adjunct in the maintenance of general anesthesia and as a primary agent for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia; administered intravenously. In combination with bupivacaine, it is administered epidurally for prevention and treatment of obstetric pain.
