Pulex
A genus of fleas (family Pulicidae, order Siphonaptera). [L. flea]
- P. cheopis former name for Xenopsylla cheopis.
- P. fasciatus former name for Nosopsyllus fasciatus.
- P. irritans the human flea, a common flea that infests humans, many domestic animals (especially swine), and wild mammals and birds; a poor vector of plague.
- P. penetrans incorrect name for Tunga penetrans.
- P. serraticeps former name for Ctenocephalides canis.

a genus of widely distributed flea. P. irritans, the human flea, is a common parasite whose bite may give rise to intense irritation and bacterial infection. It is an intermediate host for larvae of the tapeworms Hymenolepis and Dipylidium, which it can transmit to humans, and it may also be involved in the transmission of plague.
