pro·guan·il hy·dro·chlo·ride (pro-gwahnґəl) an antimalarial used in the prophylaxis and treatment of malaria, administered orally. Seldom used in the United States because of the development of resistance by the malarial parasite to proguanil. Called also chloroguanide hydrochloride.
